Aili Agnes Jowsey

March 31, 2006

JOWSEY, Aili Agnes? We regret to announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Aili Agnes Jowsey, on Friday, March 31, 2006 at the age of 91, in Fir Park Village, Port Alberni, where she had been a happy resident since September 2002.

She is survived by her three daughters, Doris Littleton (Dennis) of Kamloops, Mavis Jonsson (Carl) of Vancouver and Frances Dodsworth (John Westover) of Victoria.  Aili took delight in her four granddaughters Michele Jonsson (David Laidlaw) and Andrea Jonsson of Vancouver; Jennifer Norn (Mark Norn) of Port Alberni, and Jill Dodsworth of Victoria.  The joy of her life in later years centered around her two great granddaughters, Kimberly and Jessica Norn.  Dear to her heart also, was the father of Jennifer and Jill, Brian Dodsworth of Victoria. Also left to mourn her passing are her sisters-in-law Connie Randall of Port Alberni and Muriel Jowsey of Parksville and their families; nephew Wilfred Markkula and niece Irene Parr of Swift Current and nephew-of-the-heart Wayne Harding of Ottawa.

Aili was predeceased by her husband Jack in 1982.  Aili and Jack were the founders - in 1947 - of Jowsey’s of Alberni, the furniture and appliance store which is now owned and operated by granddaughter Jennifer and her husband Mark Norn.

Aili was born October 29, 1914 in MacCrorie, Saskatchewan.  She married Jack in 1934 and they moved to Alberni in 1937.  For quite a number of years Jack and Aili commuted to their business on Johnston Road from Qualicum Beach.

During her active years Aili was a full-time partner at the store, a Girl Guide Commissioner, a member of the Soroptimists, a frequent traveler, an amateur artist and an enthusiast of elder education.

The family would like to thank the staff of Fir Park Village for their compassion and the tender care given to Aili.

A celebration of Aili’s life will be held Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 3:00 pm at the Alberni Golf Club, 6449 Cherry Creek Road, Port Alberni.  The family will lay Aili’s cremated remains to rest in Greenwood cemetery following the celebration.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Fir Park Village Foundation, 4411 Wallace Street, Port Alberni V9Y 7Y5, in Aili’s memory, would be gratefully received.
