Alan Campbell

August 28, 1944 - February 1, 2017

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce Alan’s passing on February 1, 2017.

Alan was born in Alexandria, Egypt and educated in England. He arrived in Canada in 1963, receiving his B.Sc. from McGill, M.Sc. from the University of Manitoba and Ph.D. from Simon Fraser University.

He left the field of entomology to enter the world of invertebrate marine biology in 1977, working first at St. Andrews Biological Station and then at the Pacific Biological Station in Nanaimo from 1988-2008. He was a noted research scientist on geoducks and sea urchins.

Alan retired in 2008 to pursue his passions for woodworking and creating fine furniture. He continued travelling and enjoyed long walks with Liz in San Pariel and Rathtrevor Provincial Park. Alan’s family and friends will deeply miss his unique, quirky sense of humour and youthful spirit.

Alan leaves behind his mother, Mary, sisters Sheila (Andrew) and Mary Anne (David), nephew Giles and niece Luli. Also his wife of 45 years, Liz, daughter Jennifer, son Nicholas, daughter-in-law Tina, and grand-daughter Bella.

Many thanks go to Dr. Henderson, Dr. Fleetwood (Victoria) and all the doctors, nurses, and health care providers in Oceanside, Nanaimo and Victoria who helped Alan in his final weeks of life.

A celebration of life will be held in the near future. In lieu of flowers, the

family invites you to make a donation to the Alzheimer Society of B.C.
