We are greatly saddened by the passing of Albert (Ding) Hafer on May 30, 2009 at Qualicum Manor after a courageous battle with cancer.

He will be sadly missed but always remembered by his wife of 36 years, Nancy. Ding also will be deeply missed by his children, Denise (Dave), Mike (Kathie), Paul

(Fiona), Dale (Annette), Aline, and Karen, twelve grandchildren and one great grandchild. He is also survived by one sister, Jerene Lange (Jim) of Oregon, Wa.

Born in Victoria in 1932, Ding grew up and worked at his father’s shop, Hafer Brothers. He then worked as a mechanic for Ramsay Machine Shop in Vancouver. After returning to Victoria for a time he eventually branched out on his own starting up his own pump and irrigation business, C.P.I. in Surrey. The business eventually moved to Parksville where Ding and Nancy began a new life at the “Inn in the Bush”. After retirement Ding and Nancy joined Vancouver Island Camping Club and spent ten years enjoying great campouts and great friends. Ding’s hobbies included a great aptitude for woodworking and love of trains.

At Ding’s request there will be no service but please join his family and friends for a celebration of life at the Mary Winspear Centre, 2243 Beacon Avenue, Sidney, BC, June 18th, 1:30 -4:00. Please bring your fond memories to share with us.

The family wishes to thank all the staff at the Nanaimo hospital, palliative care unit, for their great care and attention.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the B.C. Cancer Foundation, 2410 Lee Ave., Victoria, BC V8R 6V5, or the charity of your choice.
