“We cannot hold a torch to light another’s path without brightening

our own.”

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a wife, a mother, a daughter, a sister, a grandmother, a neighbour, a volunteer, and a friend.

Barb Lyotier (nee Pippus) died suddenly on September 12, 2009 at the young age of 63. Barb is survived by her husband and best friend, John, and her two children, Nicole (Olaf) and John (Jeannine). She is also survived by her mother (Jean); three brothers (John, Tim, and David); and four grandchildren of whom she was oh so proud (Jeanne, Colin, Marc and Alec). Her extended family also included her sisters of Beta Sigma Phi, who provided her with unwavering friendship for so many years. Barb was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on July 12, 1946, and died of a heart that grew too big while camping in Northern Vancouver Island with husband John… an activity that always brought her and her family joy wherever they had lived. Barb, a Registered Nurse by training, was a constant spark of spirit in any town in which she resided. This was evident by nearly 25 years of economic development and community building all across Canada: from Houston BC, to Dryden ON, and all stops in between. Most recently, she was involved in the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Olympic Torch Relay, and Lighthouse Country Business Association from her home in Bowser BC. Barb’s family expresses heartfelt thanks for all the love and support they have received, and asks that in lieu of flowers, a gift in Barb’s memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
