BAINE, Barbara May

It is with great sadness that the family of Barbara May Baine announces the passing of their beloved wife, mother, sister, mother-in-law, sister-in-law, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother, niece, cousin, and friend on June 5, 2008 after a courageous battle with cancer

Born in Edmonton, Alberta on August 29, 1929, Barb spent her younger years in Vancouver until meeting her long-time companion and husband Walter in Banff. Banff provided a wonderful backdrop to have and raise the children, establish some great friendships, and spend time with her family enjoying the summer and winter activities that Banff afforded her. The family moved to Sherwood Park where Barb worked as a legal assistant in Edmonton and as an administrator at F.R. Haythorne School providing her with great joy in working with the many young students who attended there.

After retiring, Barb spent time with Wally enjoying the wonderful sunsets at the lakeside cabin, walking the beaches in search of shells in Florida, until finally settling down on Vancouver Island, first in Sidney, and finally in Parksville. Life in Parksville provided an opportunity for Barb to meet some great neighbours and friends and to spend time in what grew into a passion for prawning and salmon fishing in Alberni Inlet with her friends from the base at China Creek.

Barb was blessed and enlightened late in her life with the discovery of family living close by in Washington State providing fulfillment and joy in finally meeting and spending time with her aunt and cousins and their families.

Barb is survived by her husband Walter, her children Richard (Jeannette), Douglas (Nancy), Jay (Regena), and Andrea (Andrew), her sister Rae and brother-in-law Herb (Inez). She is also survived by her grandchildren Micheal (Claudine), Jennele, Jarryd, Adam, Alex, Drew, Sebastian, Nicole, Iain, Niall, and great-grandchildren Aisha, Emma, and Kaila. She is remembered and loved by Lindsey, Jilleen, all of her extended family in Ecuador, S.A., her aunt Ruth, her cousins, nephew, and many friends.

Out of respect for Barbara's wishes, no memorial service will be held. A gathering of friends and family will be held later in the summer to celebrate her life

Donations to the B.C. Cancer Foundation in memory of Barb are greatly appreciated.
