Benjamin Kary

January 6, 2009

It is with great sadness that the family of Ben Kary announces his passing on January 6, 2009 at the age of 92. He will live on in the hearts of his loving family; daughter Janice (Rein) Paasuke of Calgary, Chester (Ann) of Nanaimo, Ralph (Irene) of Parksville, and Deborah of Comox. He was a very special grandfather to Linda (Colin) Derksen, Mark and Elizabeth Paasuke, Tiffany and Ben (Amy) Kary, Heather (Ewan) Baron, Aaron (Jody) Kary, Melanie Monhay (Tim Fritz) and Kary Britch, and a great grandfather to Jack and Jamie Derksen. He was predeceased by his wife Thelma in 2004 and daughter Glenda in 1995 as well as six brothers and three sisters. Many nieces, nephews and friends will also treasure memories of his outgoing, friendly nature, and will miss his wit and humour. Ben was born June 24, 1916 in Ensleigh Alberta, and lived in Hanna and Olds Alberta before retiring to Qualicum Beach in 1974. The family acknowledges the caring and compassionate staff at Hawthorne Place, who helped Ben settle into his final years with dignity. Throughout his life, Ben’s faith brought him much comfort and peace, and to celebrate his life, a memorial service was held at Qualicum Beach Community Baptist Church on Monday, January 12 at 1:00. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations to the Cancer Society would be appreciated. His wonderful smile, interesting stories, and loving nature will be missed by all who knew him.
