Katan, Bertha Irene

With sadness and love, we announce the passing of Bertha on August 5, 2006. Born March 2, 1917 in Dysart, Saskatchewan.

Predeceased by husbands William Mandryk (1960) and John Katan (June 2006), son William Mandryk (1980) and grandson Brent Nelson (1963). Survived by sister Fran Conway, son Neil (Lorelei), daughters Rebecca, Nicci (Tom) and Christina, daughter-in-law Diana, 14 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Bertha was absolutely devoted to her family. Over the years, Bertha lived in Victoria, Parksville and White Rock and her home was always open to family and friends. She had genuine interest in others and loved her busy schedule, whether it was purely social or engaged in the ministry work. An important event in Bertha’s life was her dedication and baptism in 1950 as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Her unwavering faith was a major theme of her life. She devoted much time to sharing her faith with others. During her time in the hospital, Bertha continued encouraging others in their faith. With her family at her side, she died with dignity and fully at peace. Many heartfelt thanks to Dr. Chlebak and the wonderful nursing staff of the Palliative Ward at Peace Arch Hospital.

Memorial service to be held September 9, 2006 at 2 pm at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 14832 – 24th Avenue, White Rock. Tea to follow in the Library.
