Bruce Angus Carle

April 19th, 1938 - January 17th, 2017

Bruce was born to Bessie and Bill Carle in Calgary. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Carol; brother, Donald; nephew, Todd; niece, Nancy; daughter, Cathy; son, Shawn; and daughter in law, Carrie. Bruce was grandfather to Brayden, Taylor, Colby, Garrett, Cara and great grandfather to Holly Briar.

Bruce spent his early childhood in The Rockies where his father worked for Calgary Power. They soon moved to Edmonton, and Bruce grew into a high energy and competitive young man, receiving awards for both his swimming prowess and his gritty hard play in football. In Edmonton, he met Carol MCadam, his bride to be.

Bruce and Carol had Cathy in 1963, and then in 1966 adopted their son Shawn. He went from being a Journeyman Electrician into a position with Xerox, that would culminate in his being an important part of the team that brought the 1988 Winter Olympics to Calgary. Moving up in the corporation, Bruce still found time for family camping, working as a volunteer ski patrolman in his beloved Rockies, and even becoming the president of The Kinsman Club in Calgary before relocating the family to North Vancouver. An avid sailor, Bruce sailed The Victoria/Maui Race, crossed The Pacific three times on different vessels, and had many a far-flung adventure on the high seas. Eventually Bruce left Xerox and began anew helping to improve Roland Canada and Ingliss.

He and Carol retired in Nanoose on The Fairwinds Golf Course, where Bruce became even busier volunteering at the golf course, travelling to Arizona, hosting the grandchildren and doing electrical work around the area. A mountain man, and a sailor, Bruce was not just a big man, he was larger than life. Full of kindness, laughter, generosity and adventure, he was always ready and able to help anyone or fix anything.

Bruce leaves behind an indelible mark of character and spirit.

He is dearly missed.
