MACHAN, Charlotte Beverly (Bev)

Passed away peacefully May 23, 2008 at the age of 79 after many years of illness, in the comfort of her home at the Gardens at Qualicum Beach, with her sons, Terry, Stewart and Robert

She is also survived by her husband Donald Edward Machan (Don), granddaughters Miranda Brackett (Machan) and Samantha, grandsons Nathan Machan and Adam Machan, Wesley, Sean, Braden, great grandson Cameron, as well as many cousins and dear friends Warren Gaylor, The Klees Family, Maureen and Les Shakespear-Stead and many more.

Born in Grand Prairie Alberta on May 4 1929, Bev spent the early part of her life as the only child of true pioneers in a log cabin in Hudson’s Hope BC on her parents homestead on the banks of the Peace River. There she became an expert horsewoman and learned to hunt and trap, as well as many other frontier skills.

She was educated both in Hudson’s Hope, and on the Coast, in Vancouver and Nanaimo before moving back to “The Hope” where she met her future husband, Don Machan. They were married Oct. 27, 1951 at Whitehorse, Yukon Territory. All 3 of their sons were born in the “Yukon years", before moving back once again to Hudson’s Hope, until in 1963, the family moved to Qualicum Beach, where she remained until her death.

Bev was active in the Order of the Eastern Star for many years, and appreciated her many friends there.

A Memorial Service, presided over by Rev. Philip Spencer, followed by a tea and celebration of life will be held at St. Stevens United Church, Qualicum Beach on Saturday, june 21, 2008. All of her family and friends welcome.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Lung Society of BC would beappreciated.
