PROUDLOCK, Doris Rosina "Doie" (Nee THEAL)

of Parksville, BC passed away November 28, 2004, age 92.

She was born in Chilliwack, May 3, 1912, second of four children, daughter of Walter and Elsie Theal. She married Vancouverite Ralph Frederick "Sam" Proudlock July 3, 1943. They lived briefly in Vancouver, Cultus Lake, and Summerland. In 1956 they moved to Pemberton, both working for The Pemberton Express. In the 1960's and '70's, Doie was municipal clerk of the Village of Pemberton, and secretary for The Dyking District. In 1985, Ralph ("Sam") and Doie retired to Parksville, on Vancouver Island; Ralph died in 1989. Doie was predeceased by youngest brother Patrick Theal in 1973, by elder sister Frances "Frankie" Koehler in 1998 (who lived with her for 9 years) and by brother Winfield "Wink" Theal of Chilliwack, on Oct. 9, 2004. She was an avid reader, a lover of history and family lore. She drove her car until age 91. Her warmth, intelligent conversation, integrity, impeccable judgment, and indefatigable devotion to family are her legacy. Survived by son Peter (wife Wendy), of Calgary, son Patrick, of Parksville, granddaughters, Evelyn and Sarah of Calgary, Sacha Cherry of Burnaby, Rebecca of Parksville. Cremation. Friends and family will gather to honour and celebrate Doie's life in the spring; notice will be given.
