August 3, 2007

MANZER, Douglas George

Doug Manzer passed away peacefully on Friday, August 3, 2007 in Delta Hospital.

Doug will be remembered by many people in Parksville for his volunteerism.

He was known for his willingness to take on tasks, his capable and sometimes unique problem-solving strategies, endless hours of community involvement with Scouts Canada, the Power Squadron, as well as transporting cancer patients to their treatments in Nanaimo and Victoria. Throughout his adult life, in support of the Red Cross, he was a frequent blood donor.

Doug served with the RCAF during World War II in Ontario and New Brunswick. His service included work on the de Havilland Mosquito fighter-bomber program. After the war Doug obtained his Electrical Engineering degree from the University of British Columbia. His career as a Professional Engineer was filled with employment experiences in Ontario, Quebec, Labrador and Alberta as he worked in the hydro-electric, pulp and paper and mining industries.

Doug was an active member in the Concord Masonic Lodge #79 in Parksville from 1989 until his departure for the Grand Lodge above.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Dorothy, his brother Ron (Lois), his sister Barbara, his three children, their spouses, his six grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

By request, there will be no service.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
