Douglas K Wedge

February 27, 1924 – February 28, 2017

Born in London, England. Husband of Phyllis, father of Joe (Marilyn), Sally (Roger), and Thomas; grandfather of Jeff, Sean, Megan, Kelsey, Max and Eli.

He was a Chartered Member of the Royal Institute of Quantity Surveyors, Member of the Canadian Institute of Quantity Surveyors and partner in Brooks Wedge and Associates.

Doug’s early training as a petty officer serving in the British Royal Navy during WWII, aboard the HMS Unicorn, not only provided much adventure, but instilled in him a strong work ethic and quiet self-discipline that followed him through his long and healthy life.

An avid sailor, hiker, cyclist, badminton player and, more recently, a competitor in carpet bowling, he also completed the NYT crossword puzzle daily.  Animals loved him as much as he loved them, and he frequently had a cat on his lap, a dog at his feet, a parrot on his shoulder or a duck trailing behind him.

He kept busy in retirement serving on many boards, writing a column for the local newspaper, and actively participating in the running of the Qualicum Beach Seniors’ Centre. An optimistic man and keen watcher of the weather from his sunroom, he was often heard to say, “Sunshine by four o’clock!”
