It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Gerald Ewing on October 2, 2007 in Nanoose Bay, British Columbia. He was predeceased by a daughter Gillian; and leaves to mourn his wife Violet; son Christopher; daughter Helen; and many family members and friends. Dr. Ewing was born in Kirkburton, Yorkshire, attended Leyton Park School in Berkshire and graduated in Medicine from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland in 1955. Following graduation he served for four years in the Royal Air Force. After further studies, he obtained Fellowships of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada and Edinburgh.


Immigrating to Canada with his family in 1964, he continued his professional career in the specialties of Cardiology and Internal Medicine, established the Renal Dialysis Unit, and was the Head of Medicine at the Regina General Hospital. Later he became the Medical Director of the Allan Blair Cancer Centre in Regina and was a Professor of Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan. He was influential in the building of the new Cancer Centre in Regina in 1966 where a medical library was named after him in recognition of his commitment and dedication to Cancer Control in Saskatchewan.


In his retirement he enjoyed the peacefulness and beauty of Vancouver Island where he enjoyed gardening, boating, and playing bridge. He was involved with Probus Club, Elder College and other community organizations.
