SCHLEY, Eileen Georginia

Eileen departed this world peacefully in the early hours of Tuesday, November 7, 2006 in the care of Nanaimo Regional General Hospital.

Born in Verdun, Quebec on April 14, 1937, Eileen (nee McKerrell) is survived by her loving husband Eugene, sons Ken (Shirley), Allan (Michelle) daughters Shannon MacKay (Rob) and Marilyn Hibbert, grandchildren Justin, Jordan, Tyson and Jerid Schley; Monique and Nicholas Schley; Dan, Heather and Cari-Lyn MacKay; Kim and Jill Hibbert; Brothers Gordon McKerrell and Ed McKerrell (Helen); many cousins, nieces, nephews, their families and close friends including Steve and Brenda Hadley.

Eileen dedicated her life to family, friends and community. When she wasn’t busy creating needle-crafts for family and friends or enjoying her favourite pastime playing bingo, she was dedicating her time and talents to numerous causes in her community.

Eileen leaves a legacy in the form of many contributions, too numerous to list entirely. Eileen was a life member and past president of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #49. She dedicated many hours to the Poppy Campaign and served on almost every legion committee. Her many hours of fundraising through bingo and community events led to the betterment of groups and organizations including Friends of TEC, Citizens on Patrol, SPCA, CrimeStoppers, Heart & Stroke, Fraternal order of Eagles, Navy League and an extensive list of local and provincial charities.

The family would like to thank Dr. Henderson, Dr. Edwards, Dr. Earp Jones, NRGH Emergency and Palliative Care staff, Community Care workers and many supporting friends for their compassionate care and kindness.

A Celebration of Life was held at Royal Canadian Legion Branch #49 in Parksville on November 13, 2006. In lieu of flowers and in recognition of Eileen’s dedication to many causes, the family requests donations to the charity of your choice.
