THORNLEY, Frederick Gilbert

of Qualicum Beach passed away at the Nanaimo General Hospital on August 13, 2003 at the age of 77.

Fred is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Sophia, 5 sons David (Gail), Tim, Chris (Cathy), Peter (Joanne), Andy (Debbie); 8 grandchildren Diane, Karen, Michael, Patrick, Melissa, Brian, Allison and Robyn; 2 great grandchildren David and Megan. His brother David and sister Wendy also survive him.

Following his WWII service in the RCAF-Special Group, Fred embarked upon a distinguished career in the building trades with projects from Kitimat to Expo 86 including many bridges, hospitals and schools throughout BC. Fred was a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Quantity Surveyors and was well respected by his peers.

He will be missed for his wit, intellect and sense of humour. He loved sailing (Royal Victoria Yacht Club), Jazz music and his friends in his walking group.

A memorial service to be held on Tuesday, August 19th at 2:00 pm at St. Stephen’s United Church, 150 Village Way, Qualicum Beach.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made, in his name, to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
