OWENS, Frederick Hillis

Born in Nanaimo and a long-time resident of Port Alberni and Qualicum, passed away at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital January 16, 2003 at the age of 92 years.

Pre-deceased by his brother Bill in 1991 and his sister Peggy in 1995. He is survived by his wife Evelyn of 51 years, daughters Valerie (Len) Hadley and Linda Owens, his granddaughter Tara and grandson Les, and nieces Margaret (Esslemont), June (Poole) and Audrey (Armstrong).

Fred was the linen service manager at West Coast General Hospital, Port Alberni, for almost 40 years moving to Qualicum in 1979 after his retirement. His greatest joys in life were his family, his waterfront property at “Wavecrest”, and fishing. He will be remembered for his bright colours and jazzy music, his gentleness, kindness and his wonderful sense of humour.

A memorial service will be held at the United Church Qualicum Beach, Saturday, January 25, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Phil Spencer officiating.

Special thanks to Dr. Dunstan - Adams and the nurses on the 5th floor Nanaimo Regional General Hospital for their wonderful care.
