George Muir Richardson
February 23, 1917 – June 30, 2017
It is with profound sadness, we announce that George Richardson passed away on Friday, June 30, 2017. George was born in Glasgow, Scotland and recently celebrated his 100th birthday, complete with congratulations from the Queen.
George is survived by his daughter, Carolyn Kassam (Al); grandchildren, Sarah (Steffan), Neil (Jennie); great grandchildren, Shylo, Olivia, Taren and Chance; as well as his brother, Kenneth. He was predeceased by his wife, Jacqueline.
George was a selfless, kind, generous, and most importantly, an honourable man whose life centered around his family and helping others. He was known to most simply as ‘grandad’.
George had a long and distinguished career with the Federal Government until his retirement in 1980, after which he and Jacqueline settled in Parksville.
George had an incredible curiosity and passion for life which he demonstrated right up until the end. He loved to coach and lawn bowl; he loved fishing, painting, sports and the outdoors. He remained active throughout his retirement as a founding member of the Parksville Lawn Bowling Club and designed the logo for the Club. He was also known as the “patriarch” of the Strata where he lived as he volunteered much of his time to serve on the Strata Council and provide advice.
