HILLSDEN, George Willis
November 27, 1927 – August 17, 2005
Born in Winnipeg, MN
After a courageous battle with cancer, George passed away with his family by his side. He will be lovingly remembered by Nancy, his wife of 54 years, sons Eric (Lorna), Ralph (Debbie), Glen (Corinne), Darren (Deanna) and grandsons Brian, Christopher and Adam. He will also be missed by his sister Ruth (Gordon) Coutts and brothers Vic (Marybel), Art (Joy), Rob (Margaret), Allen (Grace) and Jack and many nieces and nephews.
George served in the Korean War during his 20 year service in the Navy. As a true Canadian, he proudly served his country’s flag as an Engineer stationed at Naden Navel Base in Victoria. After moving to Whiskey Creek in 1967, George joined the Coombs Fire Dept. and served as Chief for two years. He also became involved with the Ballenas Power Squadron where he found great satisfaction in teaching new boaters safety on the water. George loved the water whether he was on a Navy Ship, spraying it from a fire hose or fishing on the Port Alberni canal with his “boys”. In 1977, George started Hillsden Oil Burner Service and kept his customers warm regardless of the time, day or weather. He always saw the humorous side of life and will be remembered for his hardy laugh and love for his family.
The family is very grateful for the kindness
and comfort the Drs. and Nurses provided at Victoria Gen. Hospital – Tower 7A and in
George’s final days in Nanaimo at the
Palliative Care Unit. We are in awe of the
care you gave both George and the family.
Our beloved George, you will be forever
remembered in our hearts. Your pain is now
over but your spirit remains free.
A Service will be held at the Yates Funeral Chapel,
Saturday, September 10th, 2005 at 2pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations gratefully accepted by NRGH, Palliative Care Unit or the BC Cancer Society.
