Haide Hanna Marie (Holldorf) Saefkow

April 2, 2006

Saefkow, Haide Hanna Marie (Holldorf)

Photographer and Free Spirit Born Sept. 29, 1929, Schillersdorf, Germany, died April 2, 2006, Smithers, BC, Canada.

She leaves behind her loving husband of 46 years Hermann Saefkow, children Hanna (Ken Seaman), Ruth, and Hans (Joanne Campbell), grandchildren Kristan, Teo, Emerenne, Anton, and Erika, and many extended family in Germany.

Haide loved nature all her life, she enjoyed every skyscape and sunset. Every time her keen eye spotted a fox, deer or other wildlife on her way to work, she’d announce that was a sign it would be a good day. She was touched to be informed last week that the Northern Region of the BC Photographer’s association is establishing an annual award in her name in the field of Environmental Portraiture.

Many thanks to the dozens of kind nurses at BVDH, and the superb care she received from the Cancer services (Dr. Biz, Lynn, Loretta).

No immediate service will occur, but we are planning a Celebration of Life on the May long weekend, at which all are invited to bring along a “Portrait by Haide” for a one-day instant gallery. (Time/place TBA).

During the last 3 months of her life, Haide received uncountable transfusions of blood and platelets (just in her final week, she benefited from 35 people’s platelets!) In lieu of flowers, please donate your blood to the Canadian Blood Services, “In honour program” (1-888-2-DONATE).
