Harry Stanley WHITTAKER

January 11, 2008

WHITTAKER, Harry Stanley

Born April 13, 1920. Passed away peacefully January 11, 2008 at the age of 87 years, in Qualicum Beach, B.C.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 60 years, Audrey, his sons Warren and Robert (Bob), his grandchildren Erin and Amy, and many friends, both in Qualicum Beach and his home town of Regina.

Harry spent his early years in Winnipeg, the city where he was born. At the age of nine he moved to Regina where he lived until retirement. In 1942 Harry received his diploma of Pharmacy from the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon.

On August 23, 1947 Harry married Audrey (Ross) and they began their life together. Their first son, Warren, was born in 1949 and Bob followed in 1950.

Besides his work as a pharmacist, Harry was a long time member of the Regina Gyro Club. He also loved playing Bridge with neighbourhood friends. In 1985 Harry and Audrey moved to Qualicum Beach, B.C. where they enjoyed warmer winters and year round golfing — one of Harry’s passions. Following his move to Vancouver Island, the Regina Gyro Club paid tribute to Harry, by making him a “honourary life time member.”

Once retired, Harry and Audrey began to see the world. They travelled in Europe and to parts of the United States including Hawaii. Harry also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

A devoted Christian, Harry was an altar boy in the Anglican Church and later was ordained as an Elder at St. Stephen’s Presbyterian Church in Regina. After moving to Qualicum, Harry was elected as an Elder at St. Columba Presbyterian Church in Parksville where he served for a number of years. Amidst the pain of death, Harry’s family takes comfort in the fact that he is now with the loving God of his faith.

A Memorial Service celebrating the life of Harry was held on Thursday, January 17, 2008 at St. Columba Presbyterian Church, 921 Wembley Rd, Parksville V9P 2E6 at 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Box 1299, Qualicum Beach, BC. V9K 1T3.
