Hank was born in Holland October 23, 1930 and passed away at Royal Jubilee Hospital November 25, 2008

He will be greatly missed by Cathy, his wife of 53 years and their five children, Mary Anne (Dean), Nelly (Stephen), Henri, Eric (Zuzana), Michael (Tanya) and eight grandchildren: Ashlee, Katie, Sam, Sebastian, Riley, Ross, Spencer, and Izabel; and his great grandson Logan. He is also survived by his older brother Hennie.

Hank left Holland in his early 20’s and sailed to Africa where he worked in the mining industry for 2 years. He then immigrated to Canada and asked Cathy to join him. Together they embarked on numerous ventures including producing leather goods, making artificial limbs, managing a grocery store/restaurant and owning a bakery.

In 1969 they packed up their 5 children and moved to Qualicum Beach. Here they owned and operated the Mayfair Motel and then the Camelot Resort. At age 50, Cathy opened The Wool Shop and Hank founded Camelot Homes. He retired at the age of 72.

Hank will be remembered for his courage, big heart, generosity, his corny sense of humour and the many practical jokes he played. Though he achieved many personal successes in his life, nothing brought him greater joy than being surrounded by his family.

“He was a good Man.”

There will be a Celebration of Life Service held on Sunday,

December 7, 3:00 pm at Yates Funeral Home,

1000 Allsbrook Road, Parksville, B.C.
