Henry Lloynd, of Abbotsford, BC passed away on July 22, 2017 at the grand age of 97. He was active and as bright as a button until his tired heart told him it was time to rest. While born in Patricroft, he and his family actually lived, not far away, in Clitheroe, Lancashire, England, until, at the age of 19, Henry joined the Royal Air Force. His first overseas posting was to Service Flight Training School #35 in North Battleford, Saskatchewan as part of the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan. It was here he met and wed his wife Mary in 1942. Henry served in India, Burma and eventually was posted to Malaya with the transportation division of the Mobile Signals Unit #224 for the remainder of the war. In 1946 Henry returned to Canada, as a “War Groom”, reuniting with his wife and daughter. He remained an active Legion member for 65 years. Henry began his Canadian working career as a coal miner in Coleman, Alberta, the family then moved back to North Battleford where he worked his way up through the steam and waterworks department. In 1964, Henry brought his family to Abbotsford where he continued his career with Public Works for the City of Abbotsford and eventually retiring from the District of Mission in 1985. During those years he was a volunteer firefighter, builder of his own house and an all-round handyman. He truly enjoyed anything to do with the outdoors…camping, swimming, skating, broomball, baseball and was an avid curler for many years. He loved to travel and he loved his roses. He brought his keenness for square dancing with him from the prairies and became a founding member of the Abbotsford Swinging Hubs. He was a wonderful husband and a patient and engaged father, grandfather and Grampa Great. He will be truly missed by the generations he leaves behind. Henry is survived by Mary, his loving wife of 75 years, daughters Dianna Ponting (Dan Sloggett), Iris Slootweg (Jake), son Derek Lloynd, ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his eldest daughter Carolyn Zulynik. The family and close friends will be gathering for a Celebration of Henry’s Life amidst his flowers on Sunday, August 20th between 1:00 and 3:00 pm
