James (Jim) McVicker

In 1953 he immigrated to Canada and was employed for 32 years at the Car plant of Ford Motor Company in Oakville, Ontario. Jim was a founding member with the Masonic Trafalgar Lodge #34 and began his passion for the water through sailing and his involvement with the Oakville Canadian Power Squadron. Not long into retirement James and his new bride Ollie (nee Ferguson) moved to Parksville, British Columbia, which he often referred to as Gods Country. He was an instrumental member in the development of the Parksville Lawn Bowling. He continued his work with Ballenas Power Squadron teaching Advanced Piloting and contributing to the advancement of training aids nationwide. His social contribution to Ballenas Squadron has left many good memories for its members thru his service as Commander for 2 consecutive terms. Jim even found time to develop his artist talent and loved to paint the landscapes surrounding him. He also became a Shriner in 1996. James was a gentleman and a scholar who had a love for music, books, art, sailing and a good scotch. His love for life was only exemplified through his generosity of his time and hearty laugh. James is survived by his loving wife Ollie; daughter Louise Fraser (Dartmouth, Nova Scotia); grandchildren, Megan and Shawn; son Scott McVicker (Burlington, Ontario); brother Noel McVicker (Milton, Ontario) and sister Margaret Sliger (California, USA).
