Passed away peacefully on April 20, 2009 at The Gardens at Qualicum Beach.  She was 95.

Born in North Vancouver on her mother’s birthdate on August 4, 1913, the family moved to Fanny Bay when she was a young child. She grew up there and met her future husband, Palmer Johnson. After they married, Jessie lived in Victoria and worked as a seamstress while Palmer was away at war.  On his return, they lived in North Vancouver before moving to Baikie’s Farm in Black Creek.  They later owned and operated the “Doggie Hotel” along with a golf driving range.

Jessie lived on the outskirts of Courtenay for many years before moving into Arranglen Lodge, later moving to the Gardens in Qualicum Beach.  She loved her garden, crocheting, sewing and having visitors.

She may have been a little woman, but there was nothing small about her.  Her twinkling eyes would light up the room and her keen sense of humour always brought a smile to your face.  She was a hard worker, never idle - and feisty to the end.  A beautiful lady in so many ways, we will cherish the many happy memories she gave us and know she lives on in each of us.

Jessie is predeceased by her husband, Palmer Johnson, parents, Ted and Ethel Robertson and her siblings:  Eileen Lockner, Mae Newrick, John Robertson, Susie Chafer and Harley Robertson.  She is also predeceased by her niece Laurel Lockner.  Jessie is fondly remembered by her sister-in-law, Maureen Robertson and her nieces and nephews, Brad Lockner, Jill Lockner, Glory Martin, Ed Phelan, Mike Phelan, Judy Anderson, Andrée Laughland, Jacqueline Parry, Nicole Milne, Ian Robertson, Colin Chafer, Peter Robertson and Peggy Robertson and their families.  She is also remembered by her special neighbours Murray and Joanne McLeod.

Jessie will be laid to rest with her husband, Palmer Johnson at the Courtenay Civic Cemetery, 4768 North Island Highway (Highway 19A) with a graveside service to take place on Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at 1:00 pm.

 Donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of B.C., 300 – 828 West 8th Avenue, Vancouver, B.C. V5Z 1E2.
