BROWN, (Pontifex) Jessie Laura

Passed away peacefully in the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital on September 18, 2004 at the age of 97 years. Jessie was born on a homestead near Trenville, Alberta on March 2, 1907. In 1917 she moved with her family to a farm near Morrin, Alberta. After completing high school she attended Calgary Normal School and later taught school in Alberta for two years. In 1929 she married Harold Brown. They lived in several communities in Alberta, while raising their three children. In 1958, when Harold retired, they moved to Parksville. Her husband, Harold, predeceased her in 1966. She was also predeceased by her parents, her brothers Walter and Alfred, and her sister Ellen. She is survived by daughter Mary Kemper (Roy) of Pennsylvania and sons Jack (Ann) of Maple Ridge and Bruce of Bellingham, Washington, and by seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Betty and Gladys Pontifex of Drumheller, Alberta, nephews Donald Pontifex of Morrin, and Gordon Pontifex of Drumheller, and many friends. During her many years in Parksville Jessie was active in several community organizations including the Women's Institute and the Nanaimo Hospital Auxiliary. A Celebration of Jessie's life will be held in Parksville at a later date. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to their charity of choice.
