November 13, 2004

McTAGGART, John Alexander

Born September 25, 1921 in London, England, passed away peacefully on November 13, 2004. He will be forever loved and deeply missed by his wife of 56 years, the love of his life, Betty, his children Fiona (Lee), Colin (Katie), Keith, and Wendy (Hugh), his grandchildren Joanne, Amy, Heather, Greg, Geoff, Ben, Holly and Piper, and his great-grandchildren Katie and Christopher. He is also survived by his sister Jean in England, his dog Tinker, and by his many friends. John proudly served in the RAF from 1940-46. He established his much-loved career in journalism on Fleet Street before moving to Canada with his family in 1957 to continue his profession in Ontario, BC, and Manitoba. He was a life-long member of the Royal Canadian Legion and served on the executive of the FSNA. He will be remembered as an impeccably dressed gentleman with a gentle sense of dignity, a warm laugh, and a deep love for "his people." He was also a gifted photographer, who loved animals, boats, books, babes and a wee nip of scotch. He will continue to guide those he leaves behind. Thank you to his doctors and the caring staff at Trillium Lodge. A gathering to celebrate John's life will be held on Friday, November 19 at the Royal Canadian Legion Mount Benson Branch, 1630 Wellington, Nanaimo, from 2:00 to 4:30 p.m. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made in John's name to any Branch of the SPCA.
