John Harold "Jack" Curle

CURLE, John Harold "Jack" Born in Vancouver, BC, February 15, 1913 Passed away at home April 27, 2004 at 91 years, surrounded by his family. Jack was the oldest of three children born to his parents WHITFIELD FAIRCLOTH CURLE and ETHEL ROBERTA EVELYN CURLE (McKECHNIE). Predeceased by brother Bill (Gene) and sister Ann (Paul Stockstad). Jack lived in Calgary as a youngster from 1914-23, but returned to Vancouver, attending Magee High School and the University of BC, where he shone as an athlete. He was active competitively in hockey, English rugby, basketball, Canadian football, track, baseball, tennis and badminton. Jack's great love was golf which he began playing in 1924 and played his last game in August 2003 at Arrowsmith Golf Club. His claim to fame is his TEN "holes in one"! Marrying Edna Gertrude ("Trudy") Godfrey August 31, 1935, Jack had two sons, John William and Gerald Robert. Trudy died in January 1969. Jack remarried November 25, 1969 to Evelyn Grace Morrison. Evelyn did in October, 1990. Jack's working life had many twists and turns but his expertise lay mainly within the Automotive Parts Industry as a Sales Representative. He was a former member and past Director of the Marine Drive Golf Club. For 42 years he was a member of Beach Grove Golf Club and a member of the Fraser Valley Seniors Golf Association from 1968 to 1993. As a member of the BC Seniors Golf Association since 1968, and serving as a Governor and President, in 1990 Jack was made Honorary President with a lifetime membership. Jack was a member of Ryerson United Church in his younger years and since 1990 he has attended Tsawwassen United Church. During the second World War, he served in the RCAF and the RCA. Jack spoke fondly of friends and activities he enjoyed through his membership in both the Kerrisdale and Vancouver Gyro Clubs. He loved to reminisce about his many holidays in Hawaii. In his later years he found great pleasure in his card games with "the girls" and his golfing with "the boys"! Jack had a life "full" with the love of his extended family and many friends. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor and "Storytelling", his loyalty and attentiveness to the needs of others, and his undying love for the game fo golf! He will be missed by all: Sons, John (Judith) and Gerry (Maureen), step-daughter, Penny (Harold) Edwards, daughter-in-law, Myrna Olmstead, grandchildren, Anthony, Darren, Ian, Jordan, Gerry, Taiya, Liliah, Michelle (Martin) Hudson and Steven (Karen) Edwards. His great-grandchildren Mathew and James, Lauren, Jack and Morgan. Sister-in-law, Elsie Mitcham and his nieces, nephews, their families and his many friends. There will be a CELEBRATION OF LIFE, Sat., May 15, 1 p.m. at Tsawwassen United Church, 693-53rd St., Tsawwassen, phone 604-943-2911 .
