John James Runnings

Berlin Wall – Walker RUNNINGS, John James August 22, 1917 – April 25, 2004 Stretcherbearer, European Theatre, WWII, Canadian Army, John vowed to oppose war. Although marriage and family intervened, at 62, he took early retirement and launched a non-violent civil disobedience campaign “Toward a World Without a Military.” Instrumental in the fall of the Berlin Wall, his last witness was Baghdad 1990, braving the bombing with the civilian population. Death took him quickly and unexpectedly.
