Robinson, John Edward Mayon (Ted)
June 21, 1915 – January 9, 2007
Ted Robinson (known to his family as “Pop”) passed away peacefully at the age of 91 in his home in Comox, BC on Jan. 9.
Ted was born in Vancouver and raised in New Westminster with his sister Mary. He met Doris Wooldridge while working at Kresges in 1936 and married her in St. Stephen’s Anglican Church, Burquitlam on August 3, 1938. In 1942 Ted joined the Air Force and served three years overseas as a navigator on Mosquito bombers with 410 Squadron. After the war, Ted returned to Vancouver where he started his own business, the Local 5 & 10 Cent Store. Ted was active in provincial and municipal politics and served as an Alderman in Coquitlam (1972). After his retirement, Ted and Doris spent many happy years living and traveling aboard their boat ‘Eljac’ in the summers and traveling south in their motor home in the winters.
Ted and Doris settled in Sidney, then Parksville (1993), and eventually in Comox (2006).
Ted was predeceased by his sister, Mary, and is survived by his wife, Doris; 2 children, Carol London (Steve, Cortes Is, BC), Cec Robinson (Christine, Cortes Is, BC); 4 grandchildren, Robyn Monk (André-Jean, Vancouver, BC), Margaret Palmer (Ryan, Comox, BC), Erin Robinson (Vancouver, BC), and Nick Robinson (Cortes Is, BC).
Ted will be remembered for his sharp wit and humour, his curiosity and keenness in learning, his service to community, his passion for boating, and his deep devotion and love for his family.
