Born in Prince George 3 minutes before his twin, he spent his childhood there and in Houston before moving to Port Alberni when he was 12. He and Brienn began their journey together at age 14 and were married in 2007.

Their children were Kelly’s deepest joy, and he lives on in them – in Carter’s witty comments, Koen’s love for playing dress-up, and Kaden’s love for music and dancing.

Kelly’s passion for martial arts began in 1994 and was evident in every battle he fought, including his last He was an exceptional martial artist and a 2nd-degree black belt who was noted for his speed, raw courage, and flying kicks. The confidence and discipline he brought to his sport were evident in every aspect of his life. As a teacher at the Dragon Martial Arts Academy, he helped students to find these qualities in themselves, including his son Carter, who is proud to continue his dad’s legacy.

Kelly worked as a carpenter for several years with Goorts Construction. He was the life of the job site, uniting hard work and laughter in every task. His magnetic personality continually drew people in. He was a husband, father, brother, son, teacher, warrior, hero, friend, inspiration
