Ken Owen was born on May 14, 1929 in Barrow in Furness, England and died on June 22, 2005 as a result of complications during surgery in Edmonton, Alberta. He is predeceased by his father, mother and brother Tommy. He is survived by his sister Betty (Norm).

His early years were spent in England, Ontario and Vancouver. He actively served in the Canadian Navy during the Korean War in 1948 -1953. In 1958, he married Annette Funk in Creston, B.C.. They had three children: Murray (Linda), Patricia and Darrell (Valerie) and later

eleven grandchildren. His career in the telephone communications industry moved him to many places in Canada and took him around the world.

His joys and hobbies included belonging to the rowing club, in his early years, fishing and lifetime love of skiing. He took up running, participating in many marathons and triathlons in Alberta and B.C., including the B.C. Summer Games, often finishing first place in his

division. He gave his passion for life to his family and he will be greatly missed by his wife, children and grandchildren.


A memorial was held in Edmonton on July 8, 2005.
