Douglas Eugene Keith Cathcart, fondly known as “Kitch” to many, peacefully passed on

November 24, 2009 at 79 years old.

Kitch was born in Winnipeg,

Manitoba on December 17, 1929 to Eugene and Gladys Cathcart.

Kitch will be lovingly remembered by his wife Wendy, his sons, Gary (Catherine), Robin (Marlene) and Greg (Heidi), his daughter Glenda (Mike) Rail, his step sons Ed (Pam) and Glen (Norma) Baird, 17 grandchildren, 1 great grand daughter, his brother Bruce (Pat), nephews Don, Darryl, Dean and niece Dianne, he was predeceased by his first wife Doris, will be remembered by previous wife Darlene and will be lovingly missed by his dog Jasmine.

Kitch was a good natured, generous man who served in many community groups including the Nanaimo Shrine Club’s Morocco Band as band director, the Ashlar Masonic Lodge, the Eastern Star, the Rotary Club, the Nanaimo Junior Chamber of Commerce and the Queens own Cameron Highlanders pipe band in Winnipeg. He spent every Monday for 13 years doing charity bingo with Cliff for Shriners kids and for many fun filled years you could hear Kitch calling 50/50 throughout the arena at the Nanaimo Clippers hockey games.

Kitch was also known by many in the car and truck rental business, as he worked for Avis, Tilden and Budget for much of his life. Kitch also served in the Navy in Victoria, BC.

Kitch’s Celebration of Life will be held at

Sand’s Funeral Chapel at #1 Newcastle Ave.

on Tuesday, December 1st, 2009 at 1pm.

Kitch’s fun loving spirit will never be forgotten.
