Lorraine Adele Schelter

September 30, 2003

SCHELTER,

Lorraine Adele (nee Love)

January 15, 1942 -

September 30, 2003

Lorraine passed away peacefully with her loving husband, her children, and her lifelong friend Kathy (Ed) Bach by her side at the Nanaimo Regional Hospital on September 30, 2003 after a long, courageous battle. Lorraine was predeceased by her parents, Bruce and Palma Love of Prince Rupert. She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Peter; her children, Lisa Schan (Bob) of Parksville, and Michael (Lara) of Nanaimo; her grandchildren Rebecca, Frankie, Steven, Marcus, Richard, and Megan; her sister Marie (Wayne) of Kelowna, and brother Don (Judy) of Kitchener, Ont., as well as aunts, uncles, and cousins throughout British Columbia.

Lorraine was born in Victoria, but spent most of her childhood years in Prince Rupert. She moved to different towns in BC as well as two years in Ottawa, Ontario. She loved Parksville, where she spent most of her adult life. She loved the ocean, poetry and song writing, her gardens, and the peacefulness of their small acreage in Errington. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren and she loved them dearly. We are sure that it was the combination of her grandchildren and the absolute loving care of her husband, Peter that helped her fight her disease for the last few years. As difficult as her life became, she remained positive, strong and smiled every day. She was a very loyal person to her family and numerous friends, and those who knew her will forever miss her.

Special thanks go to Lorraine and Peter’s closest friends, who stuck by them through thick and thin; to the wonderful nurse Mary Thompson (Home Care Nursing System) whose care and compassion were so soothing to Lorraine and her family on that difficult day.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to The North Island Wildlife Recovery Association in Errington.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date

“The Beauty that enfolds me

Every moment that I live

Is something to be cherished

Something we can give

To the future little people

So they may sing my song

I love this world with all my heart

And I’ll miss it when I’m gone.”

Verse from song “I Love This World” by Lorraine A. Schelter 1984
