Mabel Maureen (nee Orr) Mitchell

January 31, 2004

MITCHELL, Mabel Maureen (nee Orr) Passed away on Saturday, January 31, 2004,at the age of 73, in Victoria. Predeceased by her husband Gerald in 1982, Maureen is survived by her loving sons and daughters-in-lawDennis (Patti), Warren (Sherry), Earle (Madeleine),Stephen (Maggie) and Philip; ten grandchildren; two sisters Patricia and Beverley; one brother Clifford; and many other close and caring relatives. Maureen was born in Revelstoke on May 18, 1930. Her youth was spent there and in Qualicum Beach, where she met Gerald. From Qualicum Beach the couple moved to the prairies where they raised their family of five boys in Edmonton, Calgary, Regina and Moose Jaw, often moving with the constant change of the house construction industry. The family moved back to Victoria in 1959 and then returned to Qualicum Beach in 1970 where Maureen remained for a number of years after Gerald’s death.

Maureen will always live in the hearts of those people she touched throughout her life. Her sons, particularly, feel intensely the loss of a loving mother who was always so much a part of their lives. Yet we know that she is now back in the warmth of Gerald’s arms and they are walking together once again. Maureen did not want any special ceremony at her passing, therefore no service will be held. Her cremated ashes will be interred beside Gerald’s in the Qualicum Beach Cemetery sometime later in February with the family attending. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations, if desired, be sent to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
