HEENAN, Madeline Elizabeth
1937 - January 21, 2004
Survived by her loving husband David, four daughters and families; Eileen, Brian, Lisa and Candace Holt; Coleen Heenan and Mark Lajeunesse; Beverley, Gottfried, Peter and David Muench and Nancy, John, Jack and Scott Lewis.
Madeline’s life was a testimony to God; she lived with profound strength, gracious dignity and feisty humour. Her faith and belief in God knew no boundaries and sustained her through her long fight with cancer. She enjoyed life and loved people. Madeline had a knack for getting people to open up to her and we all have memories of Madeline striking up a conversation with someone she just met. She cherished those moments and everybody with whom she came in contact.
Her ever present kindness and generosity extended to all and she taught us to see the best in everything and everyone. She was intuitively aware of their needs and always quick to volunteer or arrange assistance. She has left a legacy of love and connection to one another that will live on in us forever. Madeline helped us to understand what is truly important in life: friends, family and the ties that bind us all. She left a wake behind her that touched our souls and left footprints on our hearts. In lieu of flowers, please feed her birds, admire the eagles, plant flowers, listen to the ocean, donate your time to help those in need and whatever path you follow make sure to leave footprints.
The family is profoundly grateful to the Palliative Care team, Home Care and the Doctors who assisted Mom in her struggle. We ask that any donations be made in Madeline’s name to BC Cancer Foundation, 2410 Lee Avenue, Victoria, BC V8R 6V5.
