Malcolm Tomlinson

October 3, 1944 – February 4, 2017

It is with great sadness to announce that Malcolm Tomlinson passed away suddenly on February 4, 2017 at the age of 72 years. Malcolm was born in Cheshire, England on October 3, 1944 and is predeceased by his wife Cecilia Tomlinson, his son Neil Tomlinson, and his sister Joan Betts. He is survived by his daughter Hayley Tomlinson, son-in-law Scott Beam, granddaughter Farrah Tomlinson-Beam, his sister Pamela Tomlinson and family, and brother-in-law Bill Betts and family.

Malcolm grew up in Harrogate, Yorkshire in the National Children’s Home. Returning to Cheshire when he was 15 years old, he went on to work for Royal Mail until immigrating to Canada in 1975. Malcolm worked as a Manager for 27 years in Municipal Water Works in Abbotsford and Kelowna, before retiring to Qualicum Beach in 2006. He coached and volunteered in youth and women’s soccer for many years and was an avid Manchester United fan. He enjoyed woodworking, his vegetable garden, reading, music, and spending time with family and friends. He visited family and friends in England often, and it was a joy for him to be reconnected with his Harrogate NCH ‘brothers and sisters’ over the past few years. He will be remembered for his dedication and love for his family, his great sense of humour, and a “Nil Desperandum” attitude towards life. He will be greatly missed and always loved.

A celebration of life will be held in Qualicum Beach in April.
