Margaret Agatha RECALMA

March 26, 1922 – January 24, 2017

Margaret passed peacefully into the presence of the Lord at NRGH on Tuesday, January 24th 2017. She is survived by children Cheryl Christine of Port Alberni, Arnold (Joanne), Bill, and Michael (Sharon) of Qualicum Bay, Ramona (Lorn) of Victoria, Fran (Howie) of Gabriola Island, Marilyn (Dean) of Langley; Bryan (Chrys) of Nanaimo, Lisa (Bruce) of Ladysmith; 20 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren expected to join the family in June; as well as many many friends and extended family members. Margaret was predeceased by her husband, Ray in 2004; brothers, Raymond, Alec and Kenny, sisters, Muriel and Loretta.

Margaret moved from Steveston to Qualicum Bay in 1951 with Ray where they raised their family of nine children. She devoted her life to raising her family as a dear patient mother, nurse, mentor, teacher, and fabulous cook, teaching his many and varied skills to anyone willing to learn.

She always had a project of knitting or crocheting on the go – leaving many family treasures such as blankets, toques, mittens, and afghans. Margaret also enjoyed cut work embroidery. While in residential school, she entered one project in the PNE and won 1st prize. Later she won prizes at the Port Alberni Fall Fair.

Her happiest times were spent with her children at the beach every summer, packing a big picnic basket and enjoying the beauty of the ocean and all she has to offer. This carried on to weekly picnics just as recent as a year ago. Her family was her all. She was very proud of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Margaret had a quick wit, sense of humour, and was a courageous lady of great strength and wisdom. She was a lifetime member of the Bowser Legion Ladies Auxiliary, a lifetime member of TOPS for 36 years and a Qualicum Bay Lioness.

She has left a legacy with her nine children, her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Margaret will be deeply missed. As they say “The Good Lord wraps his arms around his children – takes none but the best”.
