WHITMEE, Margaret (Molly)

Passed away January 15, 2004

at Pinegrove Lodge, Kamloops

at the age of 97.

She was born in Pontypridd, Wales and immigrated with her family to Canada in 1911, arriving in Qualicum Beach as a school girl in 1919. Qualicum was to be her home for the next 71 years. Her family built and operated the Morgan Hotel, which for many years was a local landmark. Molly had many interests including painting, golfing, gardening, bridge and dabbling in the stock market. She was noted for her quick wit and had many friends. She was a member of St. Stephens United Church and a charter member of the Qualicum Beach branch of the Women’s Auxiliary to the Canadian Legion.

In 1990, poor health necessitated a move to Kamloops to be closer to her daughter. Molly quickly created a new life taking up pottery and ceramics and making new friends. For the last four years, Molly has been a resident of Pine Grove Lodge and once again created an interesting life in new surroundings, developing some precious friendships. Her family will be forever grateful for the loving care she received at Pine Grove.

She is survived by her sister Catherine Lane of Qualicum Beach; daughters Betty (Al) Strome of Kamloops and Jillann Fuller of Wasaga Beach, Ontario; grandchildren Bryan Strome, Margaret (William) Michor, and Ann (Kevin) Gault; great-grandchildren Alexis, Sean, and Liam; stepsons Roger (Barbara) Whitmee of Qualicum Beach and family, and Ken Whitmee of Surrey and family; nephews Jack (Joan) Morgan, and David (Rhonda) Morgan, niece June Harder and the extended Fuller family of Ontario.

Molly was predeceased by her husbands Arthur Bryan (1956) and Roger Whitmee (1994), her brother Peter Morgan, sister-in-law Grace Morgan, brother-in-law George Lane, and son-in-law Alfred Fuller.
