Matthews, Marguerite

1916 – 2006

Marguerite - loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2006, with loving family by her side, at the Traveler’s Lodge in Nanaimo BC.  Marguerite was predeceased by her husband Wilfred Matthews (Ted), and survived by her son Donald Matthews (Tanya Meek), daughter Marguerite Hunt (Bob Hunt), 3 grandchildren Beverley Wells, Sheri Smith (Corey Johnson), Wilfred Smith, and great-granddaughter Jordyn Wells.  Marguerite, born an only child in Ontario, moved out to the west coast of BC in her early 20’s.  There, she worked for many years with the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce in Victoria.  It was in Victoria that Marguerite met the love of her life, Wilfred Matthews (Ted).  After only a short engagement, Marguerite and Ted were married.  In 1971, they moved to a beautiful waterfront home, that they had built, in San Pariel (Parksville).  There they lived a peaceful life overlooking the vast waters of the Pacific Ocean, for their retirement years.  Marguerite loved to garden, watch the stars and take care of her family.  She will be greatly missed by all, and her memories will remain close within our hearts.  The family would like to thank the dedicated and caring staff of the Boner unit at the Traveler’s Lodge for all their help, support and thoughtfulness over the last year.  You truly are angels.

A service will not be held as per her request.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada (20 Eglinton Ave West, Suite 1200, Toronto Ontario, M4R-1K8; 1-800-616-8816; www.alzheimer.ca ).  To e-mail expressions of sympathy: marghunt@shaw.ca, subject heading: Marguerite.
