DARKES, Mary Dorothy Cathleen (nee Forge)
Mary was born in Onoway, Alberta on May 11, 1914. She spent her youthful years on the family homestead on the Pembina River near Sangudo, where she met and married her late husband, Harold (Hal) Darkes. The family moved to Vancouver Island in the 1950s, then to
the Northwest Territories in the 1960s and back to Vancouver Island in the 1970s. Mary spent the last few years with daughters in the Yukon.
Mary’s passion for life was known by all who she touched - she passed into the next life on March 28 at her home in Qualicum Beach, B.C.
She leaves behind 2 sons - James Darkes (Marie) of Fort Smith, N.W.T. and Terence Darkes (Lisa Gilmour) of Qualicum Beach, B.C.; 3
daughters - Marilyn Mant (Henry) of Qualicum Beach, B.C., Carol Arntzen-Darkes of Whitehorse, Yukon and Judith McIntyre of
Whitehorse, Yukon; grandchildren - Hal Jordan, Lisa Stacey, Janet and Kate Arntzen of Whitehorse, Yukon, Alexis and Caitlyn Darkes of
Qualicum Beach, B.C., Sarah and Holly Darkes of Fort Smith, N.W.T., and Tami Stewart of Parksville, B.C.; great grandchildren - Jordan
and Ashley Jordan and Jet Sauter of Whitehorse, Yukon, Molly Stewart and Paiton Treit of Parksville, B.C.; and siblings Francis Flint
(Gerry) and John Forge (Helen) of Sidney, B.C.
Mary is predeceased by her husband Harold, sisters Eve Beet and Jo Sanderson, and granddaughter Dana Fujikawa.
A Celebration of Mary’s Life will take place on the Alberta homestead in the summer of 2006
