KITCHEN (nee Bennett), Maud (Mollie)

Early on the morning of March 20th , Maud (Mollie) Kitchen (nee Bennett) passed away at Nanaimo Regional Hospital at the age of 87 .

She was predeceased by her husband Bill (1969) and 9 of her 12 brothers and sisters.  She is survived by her 3 sisters, Gen Olsen, Catherine Masters and Eloise Walker , her daughter Saundra Hills and her husband Garry Hills , her son Al Kitchen and his wife Gaye Lounsbury, her son Harry Kitchen and his wife Debbie Kitchen , grandchildren and great-grandchildren, her beloved niece Kay O’Brien and dear friends Lorraine Dawson, Thelma Denninger and Doreen Murrant .

Mollie was a member of the Sand Dollars Square Dance Club and happily devoted a lot of time and energy to sewing up her latest costume creations for their regular dances.  Dancing has been a huge part of Mollie’s life from the time she was a young girl in Southern Alberta .  She loved to tell stories of dancing with her brothers and friends .

Mollie was an industrious person who enjoyed working.  Baby-sitting was her earliest job , one she particularly loved.  She worked for a time at an ice cream parlor in Vancouver.  During the second World War she riveted airplanes for Boeing.  Other jobs included working with her husband in their surgical supply business in Edmonton and dispatching for Trailways Bus Lines and Shaw Cable.

We will all miss her cheerful friendliness, her kind smiles and her many stories of old times on the Bennett farm of her childhood.

A celebration of Mollie’s life will be held at The Meadows Hall, 120 N Finholm Street , Parksville, BC on Sunday May 4 at 2 PM.

In lieu of flowers, those who wish to do so may send a donation to The Heart & Stroke Foundation of B. C. & Yukon or The Arthritis Society.
