Nellie Smart

SMART, Nellie Alma Amelia (McIlmoyl)

born in North Saanich, BC, January 29, 1913, passed away July 28, 2003.

She was the youngest daughter of the late Bertha and Walter McIlmoyl. Granddaughter of the late Mark Ilewitt and James T. McIlmoyl all pioneers of Sidney and Saanich. Great-granddaughter of Henry Simpson, originator of the Prairie Inn, Saanichton, BC. Her first husband John E. Naylor Sr. predeceased her in 1968 and second husband Edward Q. Smart in 2000. She leaves a niece, Eunice Rogers of Toronto, Ont., great niece Susan Marshall, Cambridge, Ont. as well as other nieces and nephews in Ont., cousins and many friends. Stepson Howard Naylor, of Abbotsford, BC. Alma was well known in Sidney, Victoria and Parksville, BC having worked in the original Weiler Furniture and China Store many years. Also New Method Dry Cleaners, Holdcroft Toy and China Store. Retiring in 1977 to Parksville where she and Ed spent 18 years before returning to Sidney in 1993. A member of the Saanich Pioneers Society.

Memorial service will be held in the Sands Funeral Chapel, 1803 Quadra Street, Victoria, BC on Thursday, July 31, 2003 at 1:00 pm. Refreshments to follow in the Sands Arbor Reception Centre. Cremation entrusted to Hatley Memorial Gardens. Burial of urn will be at the Holy Trinity Cemetery, Sidney, BC.
