Norman was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba and moved with his family to Vancouver at the age of 11. In May of 1945, Gospel meetings were held at Cedar Cottage (now Victoria Drive Gospel Hall). He was saved by trusting in the Lord Jesus Christ.

At the young age of 17, Norman constructed a home for his parents and family. In 1950 he married Eileen and celebrated 52 years of marriage in October of 2002. Norman was a highly respected general contractor in Vancouver and Vancouver Island for forty-five years. He built numerous houses, office buildings, retail shops and grocery stores and was known as a fair man with a wonderful sense of humour. He regaled business associates and employees with his anecdotes and stories. Along with his wife, Norman attended Latham Road Gospel Hall in Port Alberni for thirty-two years and was loved and respected for his strong spiritual beliefs and support of the assembly.

God saw he was getting tired

And a cure was not to be.

So He put His arm around him

And whispered, “Come With Me”.

With tear-filled eyes we watched him

Suffer and fade away.

Although we deeply loved him

We could not make him stay.

A golden heart stopped beating.

Hard-working hands lay at rest.

God broke our hearts to prove to us

That He takes only the best.
