Richard Douglas Dean, of Qualicum Beach, passed away suddenly during the morning of December 21st. 2008, at the age of 66. He will be greatly missed by his daughter Katie and son Justin, his many friends in the community, his dear friend Lise Verville of Nanaimo, his brothers Robin and David and other family members living in the United Kingdom.

Prior to retiring to Qualicum Beach in 2000, Richard’s working years were spent in Port Alberni where he and his wife Elizabeth worked as school teachers, and where he later became a business man. The Dean family started a new life on Vancouver Island after immigrating to Canada from Britain. Elizabeth Dean passed away in February 2005 of cancer.

Richard has been well known in the Oceanside community for his involvement in environmental stewardship issues. He had great concern about over-development of the region. His passion and voice will be greatly missed.
