SPENCER, Rose Clara

June 12, 1909 - July 22, 2009 ~ 100 years

Rose passed away peacefully at Trillium Lodge in Parksville, B.C. on July 22, 2009 at the age of 100.

Rose was born in Cedoux SK on June 12, 1909, the second child of eight children born to Thomas and Mary (Czuckry) Gunia. Rose spent her childhood on the family farm in Saskatchewan before finding her wings and moving West to finally settle in Vancouver BC where she married Joseph K. Spencer. Their first child was born in Vancouver.

In 1941 the family immigrated to the Wenatchee area in Washington state and three more children were added to the family. The family moved several times between 1947-55 before finally settling in Toledo, WA for a long period.

Rose returned to Canada in 1986 to make her home in Parksville. She was very zealous as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and enjoyed many years of helping others to learn the Bible. Rose’s children are deeply grateful to the Witnesses for the love and care given to their mother over the past several years. A special thank you also to Dr. Desai and Trillium Lodge for their care over the years.

Rose enjoyed the time spent with her family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many relatives & friends. She was an excellent homemaker, artist & seamstress and was always able to see the bright side in the ups & downs of life.

Rose was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Victoria Marvin and her five brothers: Frank, Jack, Lawrence, Steve and Raymond Guinea. She also suffered the loss of two beloved sons: Kenneth J. Spencer & Clifford P. Spencer. She is survived by her sister Lillian Hoeving of Regina, SK; daughter Gloria (Spencer) Chastain of La Grande, Oregon; son & daughter-in-law David D. & Annette Spencer of Ferndale, Washington; daughter-in-law Patricia Spencer of Douglas, Alaska; grandchildren: Gary Chastain, Craig & Annette Chastain, Joseph & Jessica Spencer, Christopher Spencer, Chad Spencer & Jennifer Spencer; great grandchildren: Quinn, Alexandria & Colten Chastain. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service & tea will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1069 Smithers Rd, Errington, BC

All who knew and loved Rose

are warmly invited to attend.
