Sir Archibald (Archie) Douglas Bertram, age 97, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, August 19, 2017 surrounded by his wife and loved ones.

Archie was born in Galashiels, Scotland on August 15, 1920. He served with The Kings Own Scottish Borderers during WWII and was awarded the rank of Knight of the French National Order of the Legion of Honour Medal from the French Government at a recent ceremony held at the Parksville Legion Branch #49 on July 26, 2017.

Archie immigrated to Canada with his family in June 1953, and settled in the City of Medicine Hat, Alberta. He was pre-deceased by his first wife in 1992. Archie loved wintering in Yuma, AZ where he met “his girl” Peggy. Peggy and Archie were married in Yuma in 1994 and continued to winter there over the next 14 years. Shortly after they married, they made their home in Whisky Creek area of Qualicum Beach and enjoyed their Island life. Peggy and Archie moved to Parksville, BC in 2007, where they remained.

Archie is survived by his loving wife Peggy, and 3 children from his first marriage. Son Sergeant Ret’d. John Douglas Bertram (Janyn D.) of Calgary, AB. Daughter Margaret Anne Douglas Kammer (Garnet) of Medicine Hat, AB. and son Brian Douglas Bertram (Kim) of Qualicum Beach, BC. Archie was also loved and will be missed by Peggy’s family: son Larry Evans (Barb) of Ladner, BC and daughter Janalee Deline of Parksville BC as well and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Archie enjoyed life to the fullest and always loved a party or gathering he could attend. Having just celebrated his birthday with family and friends in attendance. There will be no service as per Archie’s wishes.

Peggy and the Family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Morrisson and Dr. Fridrickson,

the Palliative Care team of Nurses and care-givers and to the Hospice Society for making

Archie’s wish to remain home and comfortable come true.
