VIVIAN E. LEAKEY

Feb 5, 1929 – Aug 18, 2017

Vivian Edith Leakey passed away peacefully in the early hours of August 18, 2017 at Stanford Seniors Village, Parksville.

She passed from this life knowing how much she was loved by her family and friends. Vivian was predeceased by her husband John in 2015 after 65 years of marriage and a happy life in Parksville.

Born in Edmonton, Vivian’s family moved to the Lower Mainland, then Victoria and arrived in Parksville when Vivian was a teenager. Her parents had a jewelry store at the foot of the Alberni Highway and Vivian worked at the CIBC, where a handsome young logger (faller) named “Johnny” came to cash his monthly paycheque.

On July 1st, 1950, John married Vivian in St. Anne’s historic church. By 1951, Vivian was a new Mom to Joanna, with Jane, John and Janice arriving three years later in quick succession.

She was kind, generous and always welcoming to so many friends. She had a restless, creative spirit to the end. She struggled with health issues for many years, unbeknownst to most, but she managed to maintain her sense of humour and optimism.

Vivian is survived by her children and their spouses, as well as an extended family of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom she cherished. The family would like to thank our Pastor Rev. Andrew Twiddy, Drs. Desai, Juralowicz and Dalla Lana and all the caring workers at Stanford who looked after her daily care, dished up meals that she loved, provided physio, wonderful events, classes, outings and more. Thank-you all!

A celebration of Vivian’s life will take place at St. Edmund’s Church, Parksville on Friday, August 25th at 1:00 p.m. followed by a reception.

Donations in Vivian’s memory

may be made to the S.O.S. where

she volunteered for many years.
