Walter "Red" Allen

ALLEN, Walter "Red" Walter was born on November 22, 1914 in Coleman, Alberta. He passed away in Nanaimo, BC December 24, 2004. Survived by his beloved wife Joan; children Bill (Kathy), Jo-Marie (Reg), Gay, David, Patricia (Clive); grandchildren Martin, Kirsty, Rod, Mark, Emily; great-grandson Liam; brothers Frank (Vera), Jack (Elaine); many nieces and nephews, relatives and friends in England, Australia and across Canada. Predeceased by his first wife Marie. Walter's working life started in the Alberta coal mines. From 1942-1945 he served in the Royal Canadian Navy on the "Prince Robert." Upon discharge Walter and Marie joined his parents and his brother in Port Alberni. He became active in Local I-85 of the IWA, serving as president from 1950-1971. He worked hard, devoting long hours for the working men and women in the forest industry. After his retirement, Walter remained committed to his care and concern for the rights of ordinary people. He was proud of his Welsh and Australian heritage but prouder still to be a Canadian. Upon his retirement in 1978, he and Joan enjoyed boating, fishing, camping and travelling. He loved his family, garden, birds and his beloved Corgis. Walter's kindness, caring and generosity touched many lives and he will be missed. There will be a Celebration of Life on Monday, January 3, 2005 at 2 p.m. at Oceanside Community Church, 1420 Alberni Highway, Parksville, BC with Marilyn Klizs officating. In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of your choice would be appreciated. "My Beloved, your hurts and frustrations are over - Rest in Peace."
