April 3, 1931 ~ June 6, 2009
Walter was born in Grossheubach, Germany and emigrated to Canada in 1952. He met Shirley while they were living in Montreal where they were married in 1960.
Walter was an active member of the Masonic Order from 1962 onwards and was
involved in Lodges in Quebec, Australia, and in particular, the Lynn Valley Lodge in North Vancouver.
A mechanic by trade, Walter owned and operated
a Volkswagen dealership in Australia, an automotive repair and body shop in Montreal and for fun operated a weekend, beef cattle hobby farm, in Willamstown, Ontario. After returning to Canada from Australia Shirley and Walter settled in North Vancouver and Walter
worked for Budget Rent-a-car as Claims Manager. Walter’s love of cars was always evident, with him actually taking a new car for a test drive in May 2009 with friends.
Walter leaves Shirley, his wife of 48 years, to mourn
his passing and is remembered by cousins Alfred Rein
of Rollfeld, Germany; Herbert Kress of Frankfurt, Germany and Irmgard Hoffmann of Rollfeld, Germany. He will be sadly missed by his many friends including Leigh & Edwin Steffens of Nambour, Australia; Else
and Ove Neilsen of Mable Bay, B.C. and Bob Hart of Bromont, Quebec.
Many thanks to the doctors and nurses for Walter’s
care at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital and
Palliative Care Unit.
