BURNS, William James “Jim”

Feb. 19/56 – June 26/17

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Jim Burns advises of his passing on June 26/17, after a short but courageous battle with cancer.

Predeceased by his mother Maureen Wilson, Father Robert Burns, Step-father “Buck” Wilson and brother Robbie Burns. Leaving behind his loving wife Glenis of 30 years to mourn his passing along with his brother Roy (Heather), sister Bobbie, sister Barb (Doug) and brother Richard (Christine) and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved dearly.

Jim worked hard his whole life mostly in the logging industry driving off road logging trucks and most recently as a pipe layer, and was never one to sit idle.

Jim made many loyal friends from all walks of life, as he was a genuine person to everyone he encountered, and he will be missed by all.

Jim loved his golf, NASCAR, music, dancing, traveling, nature and children but mostly his wife and family. He was never shy to teach “the Monkey Face” to anyone, especially children, and was “Uncle Jimmie” to many. Jim will be remembered for his signature one finger salute of hello and goodbye.

Special thanks to Dr. Marlene Van Der Weyde and Dr. Love and all of the doctors, nurses, care aids and hospice workers at the Nanaimo Palliative Care Unit, all of whom made his last few weeks as comfortable as possible.

In lieu of flowers please make donations to the BC Cancer Society, Nanaimo Hospital Foundation – Palliative Care Unit, Nanaimo or Oceanside Hospice or charity of choice.

A Celebration of Life will be held “Jimmie” style with a Hotdog Roast at the Qualicum First Nation Campsite picnic shelter on Sat. July 8, 2017 at 12:00. Please bring a story to share and a chair to sit awhile.
